Sometimes amongst the chaos of life (and the Covid pandemic), you must be willing to seek out the good that is happening under our noses. One such case here on King’s campus is by Alaska Vance, Chair in the Department of Theater, and her quarantine care packages.
When asked about why she started putting together goody bags, she stated, “I noticed that several of my students were struggling with the stress and loneliness of being in quarantine. I wanted them to know that the King faculty and staff really do care about them and that our hearts are with them.”
“All the goody bags include hand-written notes of encouragement signed the ‘K.U. Faculty and Staff’ as the donations come directly from faculty and staff. I hope the students realize how important they are to all of us here at King. I’d love to acknowledge the hard work of the theatre department student workers who have been packing the bags, Amber Johnson and her team for distributing them to the quarantined students, Chase Arndt for helping with the arrangements, and all the faculty and staff who are donating,” is what Vance would like the King community to know.
Currently, quarantined students are receiving three care packages a week, two from faculty and staff, and one from Chase Arndst / SLACK.
If you are interested in donating small items such as candy, peanut-free snacks, art supplies, funny toys, stress balls, fidget sticks, fidget putty, etc. And if you’re interested in packing bags, they fill them every week, and you can reach Prof. Vance directly (text-preferred) at 423.525.1144.
