It’s that time of year again! This week, the staff of The Kayseean had the opportunity to talk with their advisors about their upcoming class schedule for the summer and fall terms.

I spoke with Dr. Logan Love and Dr. Kevin DeFord for my advisory meeting. During these meetings, we discussed my summer and fall terms before I graduate in December. Walking into the meeting with Dford was very encouraging because he already had a layout of what classes I had left to take. Going through this layout and planning for what was to come was a breeze. During my meeting with Dr. Love, I reiterated that I had discussed with Dr. DeFord, and she helped clear up some questions I had about my future career. I learned that I don’t have to be a social work major to apply and enroll in the Master of Social Work program here at King. That was a relief because I feared one requirement would keep me from applying for this program. She also encouraged me about different internships since I need one more psych elective credit. I’m so glad I have such great advisors who can guide me on the right path to my future.

I talked with my advisor, Coach Ritchie Rose, for my advisory meeting. In our meeting, we discussed what classes must be completed to fulfill my major requirement so I can graduate on time. My major is sports management, so we covered many courses in that field. Not only did we cover what classes needed to be completed, but we also discussed when it is best to take these classes, as many of them are only offered in the fall or spring of a specific semester during a certain year. We also touched base on my English minor and where I can fit into classes during upcoming semesters. I find these meetings incredibly helpful because the insight you receive from someone looking out for you is excellent.
Moreover, someone must emphasize the importance of staying on track to graduate. Coach Rose said it “is crucial to map out a school plan. You don’t want to fall behind and fight to find alternatives to graduate. Jump on these things early, and you will see great success in the future.” I will continue to meet with Coach Rose in the future while planning out classes.
