If you are looking for some ideas for extra electives, here are some interesting classes that might be helpful! Below is a wide variety of courses ranging from Music to Latin to consider adding to your fall schedule as you prepare for registration week.
Community Music and Quality of Life – MUSC 2400
This course focuses on the benefits of music in various aspects of one’s life. According to the course description in the Academic Catalog, you will learn about the effects of community music for, “. . .the elderly, at-risk youth, physical and mental disorders, refugees, etc.” The class will be taught by Professor Shea Clay on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:10 to 2:40 pm.
History of American Art – FINE 2250
In this course you will explore American art in various mediums as they compare to European art. The focus will be on the period between the 17th and 21st century and follow the changing art movements like impressionism, abstract expressionism, pop art, and others. The focus will not only be on paintings however, as you will explore a variety of mediums from sculpture to architecture. It will be offered from 9:40 to 11:10 am on Tuesday and Thursday.
Aesthetics: The Philosophy of Art, Beauty, and Culture – PHIL 3760
This course offers an in-depth exploration of aesthetics, the study of the principles behind artistic taste and beauty. You will explore ideas that relate to the arts, beauty, art appreciation and criticism. According to the course description students will, “. . . conduct an in-depth study of a selected work of art or topic in the field of aesthetics; and reflect on the state of the arts today and the role that they play within contemporary culture.” The class will be taught by Professor Craig Streetman on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:40 to 11:10 am.
Beginning Latin – LATN 1000
This is a beginner-level Latin class. You will focus on learning the basics of grammar and syntax, as well as vocabulary. This is a historical language and can be applied to many fields and may add to your knowledge base. This class will be taught by Dr. Glenn Sanders and offered online only.
Conclusion
Registration week begins on March 21st and access is determined by class level. Monday the 21st registration will open for seniors and honors students. Tuesday registration opens for juniors. Wednesday registration opens for sophomores. Thursday registration will open for freshman. Friday registration is open for everyone. Best of luck in the coming semester!
