King University is a diverse campus home to students from all walks of life. These students’ experiences, opinions, and preferences range far and wide. The Kayseean polled a small portion of the student body to get their views on current events, pizza toppings, and favorite classes.
The Oscars
On March 12th, Hollywood and the entertainment industry gather for a prestigious award ceremony, The Oscars. Winning an Oscar is a dream for those in the film and television industry. An Oscar represents determination, creativity, and one of the highest levels of achievement in the industry. Every student polled said they would not be watching the Oscars. Although she is not watching, Sophomore Emily Ward said, “I will most likely not be watching, but Johnny Depp is cool, so I hope he wins something.”
ChatGPT
ChatGPT has shaken the world of education recently. A program as advanced as ChatGPT provides new opportunities for educators and students. Although useful, educators fear students may use the program to write papers and complete work for them. ChatGPT has been in the news recently, with even King University Librarian Matthew Peltier appearing on WCYB discussing ChatGPT. Despite the publicity it has had recently, no students polled were aware of the program.
Russia/Ukraine
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has been a disheartening affair. One of pain, struggle, and fear. This conflict has flooded the news and continues to present a prominent issue. Students were asked if they were still monitoring the situation. The poll participants split half and half, with three answering yes and 3 answering no. Student Claira Czosnek says her church goes the extra mile for those in need. “I am aware of the situation. My church has been sending food and other supplies to victims of the conflict,” says Czosnek.
Pizza Toppings
What is the best pizza topping? This is an argument as old as the pizza itself. We asked students their preferred toppings. The results of the polling surprisingly had no repeats. Every student chose a different favorite topping. “I’m a simple man. I like pepperoni,” says Senior Josh Booher. Alongside pepperoni, each topping received one vote: cheese, mushrooms, black olives, sausage, and bacon.
Favorite Classes
King University offers a vast course catalog each semester. The extensive catalog allows students to take many different classes. Anatomy and Physiology was the favorite of the poll, the only class to garner multiple votes with 2. Sophomore Morgan Whitley says she’s been enjoying her A&P class. “I find it the most interesting. A&P is all about the body and its functions. It’s cool to me to learn the science about my body and understand why things act the way they do”. The other classes chosen by students each received one vote: Statistics, Into to Psychology, History Seminar, and Serial and Mass Murder. Junior Jordan Keith shed light on King’s criminal justice program. “I’m a criminal justice major, and my favorite class I have taken at King is Serial and Mass Murder. The class was so much fun, and I learned a lot,” says Keith.
