The Man Behind the Press

Here at King University, there are numerous exciting things to learn about the campus and the ones who serve it. Recently, I have become aware of The Sign of The George Press at King University. The press is located in the basement of the Fine Arts building on the Bristol campus, and the shop is quite impressive. There you will find Mr. David Winship, the director of The Sign of the George Press. Within the shop, he operates the historic machines to help him with press printing. I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Winship this past Tuesday; here is what he had to say about his shop.

Jewel Bell Reflects on Her 70 Years at King University

When Jewel Bell arrived at King College in 1952 with only sixty-six cents in her pocket, she never dreamed that a two-week job filling in for a maid would turn into a seventy-year-long career. Throughout her time at King, she has been a maid, a switchboard operator in Parks Hall, supervisor of the women’s dorm, and an executive administrative assistant for communications. Her current office has resided in the E.W. King Building since 1990, where she helps countless people find their way around campus and serves as gatekeeper to the president’s office, along with the president’s assistant, Holly Stevens. All the while, she offers a signature smile that everyone loves.

“I Learn in This Job Everyday”: President Whitaker Reflects on Six Years at King

Alexander Whitaker IV joined the King Community in 2016 as President of the University. He came to King from Berry College with more than 25 years of experience in higher education.
