Team Spotlight: King University Men’s Volleyball

Since 2017, King University’s men’s volleyball team has been a juggernaut in the Conference Carolinas. The team has had four seasons in the top three in the conference standings, and 1st place finish earning them a Conference Carolinas regular season championship. As the Conference Carolinas tournament fast approaches in the coming weeks, King sits in third place with a record of 5-3 in the Conference and 10-12 overall.

King University Swim Season Comes to an End at Conference Tournament  

On February 15, the King University men’s and women’s swim team journeyed to Kingsport, Tennessee, hoping to win a Conference Carolinas championship. After a grueling season, the feat did not come easy. While both teams have struggled throughout the season, it is truly anyone’s ballgame when it came down to the conference tournament. Furthermore, the Tornado had come into the event as underdogs, fueling the fire to the team’s flame. That said, the results were not what either team had desired, but there was no quit this past weekend.

King University Women’s Volleyball Falls in Conference Matchup 

King University’s Women’s volleyball team fell in a hard-fought matchup against North Greenville this past Tuesday. Many families and students alike supported the game with complementary t-shirts being given out to flood the bleachers with the theme of white-out to show off their King Pride. Each set was a dog fight between the two teams, going back and forth in the score column. NGU won the first set by 8, scoring 25-17. NGU won the second set by seven at 25-18. Finally, NGU won the third set by two at an impressive 30-28. King fought to the very end but fell as The Crusaders won three consecutive sets to the Tornados’ zero. The Tornados will look to bounce back this Tuesday as they travel to play Converse.

King University Hosts 2nd Annual Wrestling Combine

King University held its annual wrestling combine this year on September 25th. The combine invited high school juniors and seniors to come get a view of the King University wrestling team. There were 23 different high school athletes that attended the combine. The event consisted of a campus tour, lunch, an opportunity for the wrestlers to present their ability to King coaches and a Q & A session with the men’s wrestling team.

Athletic Team Profile: eSports

“Many people like to get into a philosophical debate as to whether eSports is an actual sport. It is a sport, by definition, and has an athletic scholarship,” says eSports coach and King alum Frank Morgan. Morgan holds 3 world records in Mario Kart and is ranked the second fastest in America and the ninth fastest in the world. Throwback: Volleyball Players Honored Both Locally and Nationally

The Tornado has received quite a bit of recognition in the past few weeks, both locally and nationally. Six [volleyball] team members were honored, two as All-District players, two as All-Tournament players, and four as Scholar-Athletes. All-District players are named based on season stats, All-Tournament players are recognized for play at the District Tournament, and Scholar-Athletes must be juniors or seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA…
